Joseph Perry Plunkett reared on his father's farm, attended the schools of Parish then started his woods career when 18 years old in the woods near Shreveport, Louisiana, where he drove four yoke of oxen,eight head, and hauled logs n a crude wagon in dry weather, using a sled for the front end of the logs in wet weather. After 5 years of this he rode carriage in the saw mills and began sawing in 1903 at Stamps, Arkansas. He arrived in Klamath County in 1925 and accepted employment with the Lamm Lumber Company at Modoc Point, changing employment the following year to the Klamath Lumber and Box Company, in Shippington.

April 28, 1896 Jospeh Perry Plunkett and Ida Peremelia Childes married at Manny, Louisiana. They were the parents of the following children; Jesse Lewis Mandros born July 31, 1901 in Rose Pine, Louisiana; Mary Katherine in Minnesota, born July 18, 1903 (Mrs Emmett Chidester); Joe Pedigo born in Durbin, Texas on July 30, 1905; Howard born in Durbin November 16, 1905; Helen born Aug.22, 1910 died Sept. 16, 1911; Guy born in Call, Texas on June 24, 1912; Moselle Elaine (Mrs. Ernest L. Smith)born in Barham, Louisiana on November 9, 1920.; James Harvey born in Leesville, Louisiana September 13, 1921.
