He was originally buried at a field hospital cemetery. The death date of July 25 was crossed out and replaced with July 22.

Notes regarding battlefield burial location:
A group of 15th or XV Army Corps men buried 3 1/2 miles E of Atlanta, 1 mile N of the Decatur St road at Murphy Rice Co Saw Mill. Buried in 2 rows, facing north.

"Name illegible" buried on the battlefield between James Wygant, Co K 99th Indiana, and Benjamin Cohee, Co H 12th Indiana. Interred in Marietta in F-4655.

In the battlefield burial record there are 6 Unknowns after Benjamin Cohee at the end of the first row, removed to graves numbered F-4657 thru F-4662. F-4659 and F-4660 have a note "illegible, next to Hickernell". F-4661 has a note "in rear of Col. Greathouse's". Two Unknowns listed after him, F-4664 noted as "supposed to be John Molay or Malay", not found and F-4665, "No Name"; both have death date of July 22, 1864.

He was married to Elizabeth Carter in 1855. They had two children who received Minor's pensions: John A. Cohee, born 10 Feb 1856; and Catharine Cohee, born 16 April 1858. A guardian, William McClintic, was appointed for the children because both parents were deceased. John A. Cohee enlisted in the U.S. Army in 1880 and lived in Louisiana after discharge.
