Sallie Butler was born in Carrollton, Carroll Co., Kentucky. She is descended from her father, Daniel Norcross Butler, and mother, Elizabeth "Betsy" Francis. Both families have been in America since early times, and Daniel's father, Asa, sometimes called Ora, Butler (11198233) was a Baptist minister in New York state. His family came to America in 1653 with the arrival of James Butler from Ireland. Daniel's mother was Mary "Polly" Norcross (71533447), and her family stretched back to Richard Norcross who arrived in 1650 and Thomas Sawyer who was here by 1648. Sallie married James Dawson Wade in 1846. By 1856, they were living in Missouri. They had eight children, and late in life they adopted a girl baby who was a foundling. Many of the family members are buried here.
