OBITUARY OF MARY LOU FAST OVERMIRE, by Larry Overmire, Feb. 2008:

A descendant of five Mayflower passengers and Revolutionary War hero Christian Fast, Mary Louise was born in Mansfield, Ohio, on Feb. 16, 1925, to Irl and Anna Mary (Shriver) Fast.

She graduated from Cleveland Heights High School and from Ohio Wesleyan in 1947. She was a member of Kappa Kappa Gamma sorority.

On June 27, 1945, she married U.S. Navy Ensign Ray E. Overmire Jr., who a month before had survived kamikaze attacks on the USS Bunker Hill off Okinawa. Ray served as executive director of the Lorain Family Y for many years.

Mary Lou taught home economics at Lorain High. She was active in church and civic affairs, serving as president of many organizations including the Lorain branch of American Association of University Women, Lakeland Women's Club, Lorain Wimodasis Club, Lorain Y-Wives and the Bristol Village Women's Club.

She was a member of Northminster United Presbyterian Church in Lorain and Grace United Methodist Church in Waverly.

She loved cats, enjoyed crafts and playing bridge and was an excellent seamstress who designed and made her own clothes.
