COOKEVILLE Funeral services for Fred B. Denton, 81, of Cookeville, will be held at 11 a.m. on Thursday, July 31, from the chapel of Cookeville Funeral Home. Burial will be in Crest Lawn Memorial Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 5-9 p.m. today, Wednesday, July 30, and from 9
a.m. until time of services on Thursday at the funeral home.
Mr. Denton died Monday, July 28, 2008, in Cookeville Regional Medical Center.
He was born May 15, 1927, in White County to the late Joseph Jasper and Nan Franks Denton.
He was a member of Friendship United Methodist Church. Prior to moving to Cookeville, Mr. Denton was a member of Ruth Ensor United Methodist Church in Old Hickory, where he served as a Sunday School teacher, Young Peoples Director, Lay Leader and president of the Methodist Men's Club.
He served in the Navy as a Seaman 1st class. Mr. Denton was a Mason for 50 years, serving as Past Master of the Old Hickory Masonic Lodge #598. Since 1962, he was a member of the Nashville Scottish Rite Mason, 32nd degree.
His family includes his wife of 60 years, Katherine Johnston Denton of Cookeville; a son and daughterinlaw,
Steve and Jean Denton of Cookeville; a sister, Jo Frances Sapp of Sparta; and several nieces and nephews.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a sister, Ellen Patton, and a brother, Eddie B. Denton.
