He was born December 18, 1921 in Lewiston, Utah.
He was the son of Herbert and Elvera Stevenson Elwood.
On March 29, 1947 he married Uarda Hansen his sweetheart for 39 years.
He married Bonnie Cox on November 13, 1989, who was his loving companion till the time of his death.
He was a loving husband, father, grandfather and friend. Vern was a man that lent a hand to all he came in contact with. In his younger years he had a small farm and drove long haul trucik. After serving in the Marine Corps during World War II he worked at Hill Air Force Base for 33 years.
He enjoyed fishing, gambling and spending time with Bonnie in Overton, Nevada.
Surviving are his wife, Bonnie; brothers, Lloyd (Elva) and Steve (Ranee) Elwood; sisters, Leora Cunningham, Dorothy (Alma) Burbank, Grace (Gene) Didricksen, Della (Dallas) Taylor. Also surviving are three sons: Alan (Diana); James (Kim); Lynn (Jim) and one daughter Betty (Gary) Orton; Seven grandchildren and five great-grandchildren who all love him and will miss him dearly.
He was preceded in death by his first wife, Uarda Hansen Elwood, one brother, Parley Elwood, one sister, Pearl Finn, and two great-grandchildren.
Funeral services will be held at 11:0 A.M. on Thursday, April 20, 2000 at Myers Mortuary in Roy, 5865 South 1900 West. Friends may call on Wednesday from 6-8 P.M. and on Thursday from 9:45-10:45 A.M.
Interment, Bear River City Cemetery, Utah with Military Honors.
