James E. Fitzgerald, 74, of 1289 Second Ave., Scotland, and formerly of 2420 Spring Road, died at 6:45 a.m. Sunday, Jan. 1, 1995, in Leader Nursing and Rehabilitation Center.

Born Aug. 25, 1920, in Nelson County, VA., he was a son of the late Albert J. and Callie E. Mohler Fitzgerald.

He was a truck driver with Ryerson Steel Co., Chicago, retiring 1984 after many years of service.

A veteran of World War II, he served in the U.S. Army.

He was Roman Catholic.

Surviving are his wife Anna Belle Lockard Fitzgerald, whom he married in 1985; three daughters, Mary Madeline “midge” Wood, Bonnie Meta and Penelope Kemmel, all of Baltimore; two sons, James E. “Skip” Jr., of Glendora, Calif., and Lawrence of Baltimore; two stepdaughters, Darlene Freitas of Baltimore and Denise Peters of Scotland; a stepson, Daniel Raeke of Scotland; 10 grand children; four step grandchildren; and a sister, Dolly Traffney of Portage, Ind.

A memorial service will be at 8 p.m. Tuesday in the chapel of Thomas L. Geisel Funeral Home Inc., 333 Falling Spring Road, The Rev. Andre J. Meluskey will officiate. Burial will be private.

The family will receive friends from 7 to 8 p.m. Tuesday in the funeral home.

Memorial contributions may be made to the American Cancer Society, Franklin County Unit, 452 E. King Str., Chambersburg 17201.

James was the son of Albert James Fitzgerald "Old Man Al" and Callie Eva Mohler. He married Mary Otilia Raeke on March 6, 1942 in Maryland. He was the father of two sons, James and Albert and three daughters, Mary, Bonny and Penelope Fitzgerald. James or Jim as he was known by family and friends served in the U.S. Army during WWII. He held jobs as a truck driver and a driver for various bus companies.
