Raymond was born in Ohio, the son of Curtis Gould and Susan Hoffman, brother of Nellie.
He died in the Collinwood Lake View school fire on Ash Wednesday at 11 years of age. There were 366 students and teachers at the school, 172 students, 2 teachers and a rescuer perished in the blaze, which was caused by an overheated steam pipe igniting the wooden beam above it.
Other children interred in Euclid Cemetery died in the fire; Rose and Alma Buschman, Lillian Carrie Rostock, and Fern Robinson. Raymond's cousin and best friend Albert, also 11, was also a victim. Albert is buried in Willoughby.
