Funeral Services For Samuel Martin Kelly
Held Sunday, Mar 23
Funeral services for Samuel Martin Kelly, who died March 20 after a lingering illness were held Sunday afternoon at 2:30 o'clock, March 23, at the Bartcher Chapel with Rev. McKinley, of Defiance, officiating. Interment followed in Oakland Cemetery. Services were largely attended by relatives and friends who came to pay their last respects.
Mr. Kelly was born in the County of Montague, Canada, December 20, 1846, and had reached the age of 83 years and 3 months.
In 1855 when a lad of nine years he came to the United States and made his home at Morrison, Illinois, until he was 20 years of age with he went to Marysville, Kansas, to live, where in 1873 he was married to Mary Ann Bachoritch.
In 1875 Mr. and Mrs. Kelly returned to Morrison, Illinois, and in 1884 they came to Denison to make their home, and they have resided here since that time.
Mr. Kelly was a farmer by trade and had successfully farmed in Illinois, Kansas and Iowa. In 1900 he was compiled to retire from active work on account of failing health.
To Mr. and Mrs. Kelly were born eight children, one of whom, Edna Minnie, passed away on July 7, 1918, at Elm Creek, Nebraska.
He leaves to mourn his departure his wife, Mrs. Mary A. Kelly, and seven children: Edward M. Kelly, Chicago; Mrs. Kathryn Barber, Elm Creek, Nebraska; Mrs. Bertha Harrison, Grand Island, Nebraska; Mrs. Edith Fisher, Hawk Springs, Wyoming; Mrs. Mabel Laub, Ralph M. Kelly and Mrs. Ruby Bosecker of this city, and nine grandchildren.
Mr Kelly was a highly respected citizen and was always ready to help in the upbuilding of the community. His pleasant deposition won for him a host of friends who mourn his passing.
