During his term Anderson eliminated the three cent sales tax and the Rural Credits debt. He provided additional aid to the public schools and to the Yankton and Redfield State Hospitals. He worked for better highways and the development of the Missouri River. He also suggested the creation of the Legislative Research Council. Anderson was appointed to the Federal Trade Commission in 1955 where he served until 1964. He returned to Webster to practice law until 1967 when he was appointed judge for South Dakota's Fifth Circuit Court.
