John Henry Ludwick, Dec 1888-3 Sep 1912, Spokane. Parents: Peter & Anna (Sleight) Ludwick, John was the husband of Constance "Connie" (Stults) Ludwick [she later married Archie Silver] and father of Gladys (Ludwick) Porter. He died several months before she was born.
Spokane Daily Chronicle, Aug 31, 1912, pg. 3 - Fireman Falls; Seriously Hurt - John Ludwick is in Critical Condition at Sacred Heart Hospital - Unconscious and suffering from some unknown brain trouble, believed to have been caused by a fall more than two weeks ago, Fireman John Ludwick of station 4 lies at Sacred Heart hospital in an extremely critical condition. Ludwick struck his head on the paved floor at the firehouse. The injury did not bother him until several days ago, when he experienced spells of dizziness. Friday morning he lapsed into unconsciousness and has remained in that state since. Dr. E. R. Northup, the attending physician, called into consultation this morning Dr. William Frost, eye, ear and nose specialist, and Dr. Herman P. Marshall.
Spokesman-Review, Spokane, Washington, Thursday 5 Sept 1912 - John H. Ludwick, Died 3 September 1912 - Firemen To Be Pallbearers - Hold Funeral of John H. Ludwick This Afternoon. Firemen in full uniform will act as pallbearers this afternoon at the funeral of John H. Ludwick, the stoker of station No. 4, who died Tuesday at the Sacred Heart hospital. The funeral services will be held from the Smith & Co. undertaking rooms at 2 o'clock.
The pallbearers will be H. K. Taylor, John Lambert, John McLean, A. E. Ingstrom, William Rudolph and John Shodbolt. The deceased had been a member of the department for 14 months and was married shortly after entering the employ of the city. Mr. Ludwick was a native of Spokane. Burial will take place at Greenwood cemetery.
Spokane Daily Chronicle, Thurs. Sept. 5, 1912 - Ludwick - The funeral of John H. Ludwick, aged 23 years, a fireman formerly of station No. 4, who died as the result of injuries sustained when he fell two weeks ago, was held this afternoon from the Smith & Co., undertaking rooms. The Rev. Will A. Betts officiated and interment was at Greenwood.
