Son of Sarah (Sally) Jane Powers and Samuel Russell Allen. First child born into a family of eleven girls and six boys.

At about three years old, he migrated with his parents, two siblings and extended family along with a few neighbor families to the state of New York.

They settled at Liabon, near Red Mills about the last of February in 1797. They built a house and took up farming. Here two more children were born.

About 1802, the family moved nearer to Columbia Village which later became the town of Madrid and farmed until about 1810.

George was eighteen when he enlisted in the service of the United States at the beginning of the War of 1912. He was enrolled at Madrid by John Blanchard, July 15th, 1812.

He was under the command of Captain Castle at Camp Waddington. He participated in many skirmishes with the enemy and fought battles at Ogdensburg, Sackett Harbor, Lundy Lane, Fort George, Queenstown Heights, Fort Erie and Oswego to name a few.

He trained with the broadsword under Sword Master Burns and was the drill master at Utica.

In October 1815 he married (1) Mary Sullivan; they had a daughter who died early and Mary died June 1829. He married (2) Susan Pemberton; they had a daughter, Lydia who married (1) Richard Bicknell [died] and (2) Alonzo Lawrence, whom Lydia lived with at Fort Atkinson, Iowa.

Susan died at Raymondville, New York and George lived with a nephew and his wife at Madrid until his death.
