Wilford Carl "Bill" Mittlestadt, 80, of Newbern, died Friday, Oct. 26, 2007 at his residence.
He was a retired commanding officer of the United States Navy after 26 years of service and a retired employee of the United States Postal Service.
Services will be at 11 a.m. today in the chapel of Johnson-Williams Funeral Home with Jerry Leach officiating. Burial will be in Rehoboth Cemetery in Newbern.
Survivors include a daughter, Gwen Chaney of Windsor, N.C.; two sons, Bill R. Mittlestadt of Norfolk, Va. and Jeffrey l. Mittlestadt and wife, Lisa, of Newbern; a sister, Ethel C. Cich of Superior, Wis.; 10 grandchildren, Nicole Kinzie, Nathan Fawley, Jeffrey L. Mittlestadt Jr., Lisa Neal, Veronica Mittlestadt, Kenny Wayne Davis, Rachel Green, Billy Lee Mittlestadt, Keith Scott Chapkin and Johnathan Mittlestadt; and six great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Gracie Stowe Mittlestadt; a son, Senior Chief Danny Mittlestadt, USN; and his parents, William Carl Mittlestadt and Olive Mittlestadt.
Pallbearers will be Joshua Dean, Jeffrey L. Mittlestadt, Jeffrey L. Mittlestadt Jr. and Jackie Lewis.
