Daughter of William Henry Wood and Elizabeth Tatom. First Wife of Marshall K. Boatman. Mother of Minnie E. Boatman Allen and William Claude Boatman. She was raised by her grandparents Richard Tatom and Lavinia Hartley. Irene's husband Marshall K Boatman was her step brother.

Funeral services of Mrs. M.K. Boatman were conducted in the Union Church of Lostine, August 17, Rev. George W. Arms officiating. Burial was in Lostine Cemetery. Mrs. Boatman died at the family home in Division Street, Portland, last Monday, after an illness lasting many months. Her maiden name was Irene Wood, and she was born near Salem, May 23,1859. The daughter of William H. and Elizabeth (Tatom) Wood. Her mother died at the time of Irene's birth, but her father survives at the age of 88 years.
She was married to Marshall K. Boatman in Benton County, October 14,1877. After a few years residence at Alsea Valley they came to Wallowa Valley in 1881, settling near Lostine.
Mrs. Boatman was a member of the Christian Church and a charter member of Lostine Chapter, Order Eastern Star. She is survived by her husband and two children, Mrs. E.O. Allen of Lostine, and W.C. Boatman, County clerk of Wallowa County; a half brother, George D. Wood, of Lostine and her aged father, W.H. Wood.
