Sarah Pyle Ockenden
Birth: Mar. 26, 1881
Thornage
Norfolk, England
Death: Jan. 12, 1972
Wadhurst
East Sussex, England

Sarah Pyle was born on 26 March 1881,
at Thornage, Norfolk, England.

She was the youngest of 6 children born to
Robert Pyle (1847-1901) & Mary Jex (1846)

Her siblings were:
May (also k/a Mary 1872)
Gertrude (1874-1894)
Benjamin (1875-1899)
Robert (1876) &
Olive (1877)

On 28 April 1909, she married
Charles Henry Ockenden II
(1885-1971)
at the Parish Church, St Pancras, London.

They had two children,
Olive (1909-2003) & Charles Henry jr (my Father, 1912-1981)

During their married life they lived in
North St, Sidley, Sussex,
ran the Lamb Inn, Sewers Bridge, Hooe, Sussex,
the Royal George Hotel, Hurst Green, Sussex,
before retiring to just outside Tunbridge Wells,
& then finally to Ticehurst, Sussex.

It was at their bungalow "Glee St Margarets" in Ticehurst, that she discovered her husband dead in the kitchen, when he went to make her a cup of tea.

She never got over her loss, and spent the rest of her life in a nursing home in Wadhurst, Kent, where she died five months later.

I remember that she had very strong family values & morals. She knew everyone & everything that was going on in the village. She died before I really had the opportunity to know her. She would often take me into her bedroom & give me "threepenny pieces" just so that she could ask me questions about my parents!

How I wish she was still alive now, as I have found out so much since I started tracing my family tree in 1999. I would have loved to have heard her replies.........
a) the 1881 census lists her as being an Infant Pyle - son!
b) she married in April 1909, and her daughter was born November 1909, six & half months later!

She once made my Grandfather write me a letter, I was only 8 or 9 at the time, saying that as there were no NANNIE goats living at the bungalow, he had given my birthday card to my NANA instead! Ouch!
My late Mother kept this letter, and gave it to me when I was in my 20's. It is one of my most treasured possessions, because it says so much about how they felt about family life.

They were devoted to each other & he treated her like a Queen!

They are buried side by side in Ticehurst Church Graveyard, Ticehurst, Sussex.

How God created mother

God took the fragrance of a flower,
The majesty of a tree,
The gentleness of morning dew,
The calm of a quiet sea,
The beauty of a twilight hour,
The soul of a starry night
The laughter of the rippling brook,
The grace of a bird in flight,
Then God fashioned from these things
A creation like no other,
And when His masterpiece was through,
He called it simply...MOTHER.

for my Father, to whom his Mother, ment the world to him.

When we lose someone we love it seems that time stands still. What moves through us is a silence, a quiet sadness, a longing for one more day, one more word, one more touch. We may not understand why U left this earth, or why U left before we were read...(Read more)

A friendly voice in the dark of night, the tentative rays of morning light. A host of Butterflies high in flight, a Rainbow far out of sight. All these Miracles tell me this ~~~ ANGELS really do exist. ~Author Unknown~
