Lynn Earl Thayer, one of seven children of George Thayer and Cora (Cubon) Thayer, was born in Nelson, Nebraska, on September 15, 1918, and passed from this life on April 17, 1986, in the Brodstone Memorial Nuckolls County Hospital in Superior at the age of 67 years, 6 months and 28 days.
He attended and graduated from the Nora Public Schools. He was an active member of the First Christian Church in Nelson where he was baptized in the 1930's. He was a member of the Nora Cemetery Board, the Nelson V.F.W., American Legion of Ruskin and a member of the Farmers Union Board of Nora.
He served his country with the army of the United States and was drafted April 15, 1943. Before leaving for his duty he was united in marriage to Patricia Doher. This union was blessed with two sons, Michael and Richard.
While serving his country he was presented with a bronze star award and an (sic) air medal with one oak leaf cluster.
Lynn was an excellent farmer and an outstanding livestock producer, spending his entire life in the Nelson and Nora communities and raising his family and farming.
He is preceded in death by his parents; an infant brother, John Woodrow Thayer; 3 sisters, Elda Thayer, Helen Crook and Marie Bargen.
Survivors left to cherish his memories are his loving and faithful wife, Patricia; his sons, Michael and his wife Karen of Nora, Richard and his wife Mary of Omaha; two brothers, Ralph and his wife Ethel Thayer of Guide Rock and Dr. Jon D.. and his wife Rhae Thayer of Belleville; 8 grandchildren, nieces, nephews, other relatives and a host of friends. He will be sadly missed and fondly remembered by all who knew and loved him.
Funeral services were held Tuesday, April 15, 1986, at 10:30 a.m. from the First Christian Church in Nelson with Rev. Richard Markland officiating. Music was provided by Alfred and Janell Hanson singing a duet of "I Know Who Holds Tomorrow" and "My Tribute" with Myrtle Worley as organist and accompanist. Casketbearers were Walt Williams, Elmer Williams, Bill Morehead, Don Cacek, Earl Adamson and Bill Lynch. Honorary casketbearers were Edd Epley, Dean Jones, Leon Simonsen, Raymond Statz, Robert Williams, Jack Wehrman, Howard Williams, Don Doher, Roger Williams and Norman Stenson. Flag presentation was by the Nelson V.F.W. Post. Burial was in the Nora Cemetery. Megrue-Price Funeral Hone of Superior was in charge of the arrangements.
