In searching death records, there WAS an Emily W Cunningham, married, who died in childbirth in Wilbraham,MA on Jan 18,1866. But she is listed as aged 23, instead of being listed as aged 43. From vital records and North Brookfield Genealogies, it indeed indicates she was aged 43 at her death, and that the Wilbraham death that is recorded pertains to Emily Williams (Ballou) Cunningham.
She was a daughter of Asa Williams Ballou (1795-1855) and Marietta (Sayles) Ballou (1800-1864) of Smithfield,RI. They were married on Mar 22,1820.
Her paternal grandparents were Asa Ballou and Rhoda Williams Ballou.
Her maternal grandparents were Arnold Sayles and Lillis Irons Sayles.
Smithfield vital records indicate that Emily (daughter of Asa Ballou) married John Preston Leonard there on Feb 26,1843.
She married, second, at Wilbraham,MA on Feb 26,1862, Joseph B Cunningham. He was a blacksmith, born in Stafford,CT on Jul 23,1810, a son of Benoni Cunningham and Clarinda ___ Cunningham of Glastonbury,CT. It was his second marriage as well. His first wife Elsie Walker had died in South Wilbraham,MA in 1861, and his third wife, Martha A Taylor, whom he married in 1866, was from South Wilbraham,MA. Joseph died on Jul 25,1871 at South Wilbraham,MA.
Children(by first marriage): Mary Ellen Leonard Medbury, George Parsons Leonard, Emily Rebecca Leonard, and Sarah Hale Leonard Seagrave(here?).
Children(by second marriage): She died in childbirth in 1866, and it is not clear whether the child survived.
NOTE:Curiously, there is another burial listed in this cemetery for an Emily W Armington, with the same birth year and a date of death only one day different. It would be extremely unusual for there to be two Emily W's with the same birth year and essentially the same death day to be buried in the same cemetery. Both burials ARE recorded in the Rhode Island Cemeteries Database as being in the Smith Lot in Smithfield. However, if they ARE the same, I cannot yet make a connection between the known information on Emily W Armington and this Emily W Cunningham.
