Boss Blankenship, age 47 years, newly elected magistrate in the fourth district, passed away at a Knoxville hospital Saturday morning at 10:45. He had been seriously ill for a week, and was operated on twice for ailments. He steadily grew weaker, and the end came Saturday morning.
Reports here Saturday morning said Mr. Blankenship was seriously ill and was not expected to live. He was elected magistrate and was sworn in along with other officials September 1. He led the ticket in his district with 648 votes, testifying to the high esteem in which he was held. He was a member of the Elk Valley Baptist Church and a Junior.
Near relatives surviving are his widow, Mrs. Belle Lay Blankenship; a son, Verldon, a daughter, Azalee, his parents, Mr. and Mrs. A. L. Blankenship, 4 brothers, H.D. and N.A. of Jellico, and M.C. of Elk Valley, and Hubert, and four sisters, Mrs. Zora Mitchell and Mrs. O. Stanfill of Elk Valley, Mrs. Creed Cord of Wiscoal, Ky., and Miss Rosetta Blankenship of Harlan, Ky.
Funeral services were conducted Monday at two o'clock at the Baptist Church at Elk Fork, the Rev. Samuel Garrett in charge. Burial was in the cemetery there.
Pallbearers were Frank Gibson, Robert Henry, James Brown, George Davenport, Claude Baird and Wyner Sharp. Honorary pallbearers were G.B. Brown, David Reynolds, R.B. Scott, S.D. Queener, W.D. Gibson, W.A. McCullah, L.D. Lowry, T.E. Martin, Frank Lay, George Lay, James Murray, Sam Baird, Lloyd Baird, Paul and Tom Francis, and J.T. Huey.
