OCEANA -- Lolita Gilliland, 76, passed away Monday, May 2, 2005, in Logan General Hospital following a sudden illness. Mrs. Gilliland was a member of Oceana United Methodist Church. "Granny" was former co-manager of Gilliland Park and Pool and a 4-H All Star in Cabell County. She enjoyed reading, her church, children and grandchildren. Her proudest accomplishment was her life with her loving husband and friend, Gene.

Born Nov. 2, 1928, in Inez, KY, she was the daughter of the late Hal Wentz (B. about 1900-Deceased) and Jean Phipps-Wentz (B. about 1900-Deceased). In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by a sister, Josephine Wentz-Shumate (Deceased).

Survivors include her devoted husband of 56 years, Frank "Gene" "Coach" Gilliland (1924-2020) whom she married on August 29, 1948 in Cabell County, WV (per WV Marriage License Register, Cabell County, WV, 1948, Page 236, Record #5863, Application Date: August 28, 1948); three daughters, Susan Gilliland-Sexton & husband James Sexton of Wharton, Debbie Gilliland-Pendley & husband Joe Pendley of Cincinnati, Ohio, and Martha "Marty" Gilliland-Morgan (B. 1957) & husband Terry Morgan of Cincinnati; a brother, Bill Wentz & wife Betty K. Wentz of Grayson, KY; a sister, Doris Ann Wentz-Adams of Huntington; seven grandchildren, Allen Sexton & wife Alisha Sexton of Williamstown, Eddie Sexton of Rock Hill, SC, Jennifer Sexton of Fort Mill, SC, and Ty Morgan, Tory Morgan, Max Pendley and Rose Pendley, all of Cincinnati; and three great-grandchildren, Emilee Sexton, Elizabeth Sexton and Lauren Sexton.
