PARKHILL GAZETTE Apr 1908, Mrs. John Arnold
Text: Another aged resident of Parkhill died at her home on Hastins Street, early on Monday morning. Mrs. John Arnold was born and spent her girlhood near Waterloo, Ontario. Her maiden name was Anna M. Rice, after her marriage with John Arnold they settled in Washington and also in Harrison for a few years. In 1864 they moved to Con . 14,West Williams near Sylvan, where they lived for nearly twenty years. Here their children came to them and here they worked in the church and formed friendships which were to last while life held out. Here Mrs. Arnold is remembered as a large hearted woman who amid family cares and the multitudinous tasks which farm life then entailed had ever a thought for others and could ever be depended upon when some one must come forward and put their shoulder to the wheel. In 1883 she and her late husband removed to Parkhill. The Methodist Church of which they were members found them ever ready and willing to do whatever work came to hand. Their home was known for the hospitality which was extended to young and old and a wide circle of friends mourn with the bereaved family today for the gentle voiced kindly woman whose life has ended. During the last few years her health has been precarious, at times she suffered great pain. During this last illness which began a few days before her death, she was entirely free from pain but experienced great weakness. God led his aged servant through the valley of death and in that valley there were no terrors either of physical suffering or fear of what lay beyond. Two sons, William and Aaron died some years ago. Five daughters and a grand-daughter who found in her a mother, survive. Mrs. C. Gibbs, lived in Parkhill, Mrs. A. W. Brewer, of Sylvan, Mrs. Wm England, of Parkhill, Mrs. William Munro, of Detroit, and Miss Vina at home.
