CALLENDER - Benjamin S. Mobley, 93, died Friday, July 11, 2008, at Tompkins Memorial Health Center, Fort Dodge. Funeral services will be 10:30 a.m. Wednesday at Palmer Funeral Home, Gowrie, with Rev. Gary Bird officiating. Graveside services will be 2 p.m. Wednesday at West Cemetery in Panora. Friends may call from 4 to 7 p.m. Tuesday at Palmer Funeral Home, Gowrie.
Survivors include daughter Myrna Van Meter of Rutland, Ohio; sons Jerry Mobley and his wife Carol of Cedar Rapids, Ronald Mobley and his wife Kathie of Glendale, Ariz.; and daughter Myra Hanson and her husband Dave of Fort Dodge; 9 grandchildren, 16 great-grandchildren, sister-in-law Aldine Mobley of Guthrie Center, several nieces and nephews, and great-nieces and great-nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents George and Francis (Tobinski) Mobley, wife Helen of 66 years, son Harold Mobley, infant daughter Margo Mobley, 2 grandsons Troy Mobley and John Hudgins, 4 brothers and 2 sisters.
Benjamin S. Mobley was born June 17, 1915 at Panora and attended country school. He farmed with his father. Ben was united in marriage with Helen Ikerd on March 19, 1935 at Guthrie Center. They lived south of Jefferson for 12 years, moving to Callender in 1953. Ben farmed in the Callender area and later was employed for the Big 4 Co-op and Consolidated Co-op. He operated Mobley Heating and Cooling until his retirement in 1977. Ben moved to Friendship Haven in 2005. Ben and Helen spent several winters in Texas. He enjoyed family, fishing and making lawn ornaments for family and friends. He also enjoyed dancing with his wife Helen.
