Son of James Ezra and Ada (Layton) Swalley & step son of Ruth A. Kines Swalley. He married Grace Estella Richardson on May 24, 1935. Brother of Fred, John William, Clell and Edith Galloway.

He was in the US Army.

I remember sitting in the kitchen with Grace and Short while they played Pitch with Jack and Mandy.

I remember hearing that Short got struck by lightening once. I also heard that he got mad at a bull and took of his metal hat and it hit the bull in the head and killed it. I also recall seeing him riding around in his big tractor. He and Grace were usually fount sitting on their front porch. Me, my brother, and a cousin had a tree house in their yard, out by the garden.

Short had a saying for when it was raining hard. He would call it a 'toad strangler'.
