Daily Democrat, Clinton MO - Fred William Oswald died Tuesday, October 21, 1997, at Golden Valley Hospital in Clinton. Fred was born on a farm near Urich on January 14, 1927, to Ben Oswald and Lenora (Hueser) Oswald. He grew up on the same farm and he attended White Oak School. On August 4, 1952, he married Bernice Schussler. They had seven children. He worked as a farmer all his adult life, except for two years when he served in the U.S. army, from October 1952 to October 1954. He spent 19 months of his military service in Berlin, Germany. He was in failing health for the past five years. Fred was a member of the Holy Trinity Catholic Church in Urich. He was a member of the Montrose Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 8820 and was an MFA Oil delegate. He was a member of the Montrose R-14 School Board for many years. He also served as assessor in walker Township for several years. During the 1970s he was a 4-H leader for Germantown Cloverleaf 4-H Club. Fred's greatest enjoyment was being with his grandchildren. He was their Grandpa Fred. Fred was preceded in death by one son, Timmy; his parents, Ben and Lenora Oswald, and one brother, Paul. He is survived by his wife, Bernice, of the home; six children, Kathy Shields, Belton, Jim Oswald, Ackworth, Iowa, Brenda Green, Ozark, Jerry Oswald, Urich, Janelle Vice, Clinton, and Becky Long, Belton; 11 grandchildren; one sister, Marie Staples, Montrose, and eight nieces and six nephews. Funeral mass was Friday, October 24, at St. Ludger's Chapel. Burial was in the St. Ludger's Cemetery, Germantown. (Obit from Henry Co website, used with permission.)
