Vivian D. Townsley
Soldotna and Sterling area resident Vivian D. Townsley died Friday, April 4, 2003, at Heritage Place Nursing Center in Soldotna. She was 95.
Graveside services were held in Tucson, Ariz., and she was buried next her husband at South Lawn Cemetery. A memorial service will be held at 1 p.m. Saturday at the Soldotna Church of Christ, Mile 91.7 of the Sterling Highway. Her son, Robert Townsley, and Tony Cloud will officiate at the service.
Mrs. Townsley was born April 10, 1907, in Hamilton, Texas, to William Edward Dansbee and Martha Isabell Bryan. She was the fifth of eight children. The eighth child, a boy, died shortly after birth.
Mrs. Townsley married Wesley Irvin Townsley on June 6, 1926, in Santa Rica, N.M. She lived in the Soldotna and Sterling areas for the past eight years.
"She loved her children, grandchildren, great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren. She also loved being with people, especially those of the Church of Christ, of which she was a member for 79 years. She was quite adept in gardening and needlework," her family said.
Mrs. Townsley was preceded in death by her husband on Aug. 2, 1961, and six sisters.
She is survived by her sons, Robert I. Townsley of Sterling, Charles W. Townsley of Oracle, Ariz., and James L. Townsley of Albuquerque, N.M.; eight grandchildren, including Sherry Bradshaw and Darla Towell of Sterling; 12 great-grandchildren; and 15 great-great-grandchildren.
Arrangements were made by Peninsula Memorial Chapel.
