Charlotte Bowman Smith Kearsley, 90, of Ammon, Idaho, died Jan. 9, 2002, at Eastern Idaho Regional Medical Center in Idaho Falls. She was born Aug. 30, 1911, at Otis, Idaho, to William James Bowman and Mary Amanda Taggart Bowman. She attended school in Aberdeen and Sterling. On May 25, 1932, she married Lester Ralph Smith in Logan, Utah. Their marriage was later solemnized in the Idaho Falls LDS Temple. He died June 20, 1973. She married Art Kearsley on June 16, 1990, in Shelley. He also preceded her in death. She worked as a waitress at the White Square Cafe in Rigby; at Best Western Hotel and the Stardust Hotel in Idaho Falls as a housekeeper; and at Carsens Rest Home in Rigby. An active member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, she served in many positions in the Relief Society and Primary. She enjoyed dancing, family gatherings, traveling, raising flowers, and embroidering. She was a good seamstress and made many of her own clothes. Charlotte had a keen mind, a good memory, and was very much loved by her family. Survivors include two daughters, Charleen Sappington of Fresno, Calif., and Carol Dee (Steven) Dutson of Fruit Heights, Utah; four sons, Ralph Vaughn (Janice) Smith of Dubois, Idaho, William Edward (Louis) Smith of Enid, Okla., Lester Wayne (Kathy) Smith of Provo, Utah, and Donald Lamar (Linda Marie) Smith of Ammon; a sister, Irene Reynolds of Othelo, Wash.; a brother, Charles (Rhodonna) Bowman of Idaho Falls; 69 grandchildren; 39 great-grandchildren; and six great-great- grandchildren. She was preceded in death by a son, Robert Bruce Smith; a daughter-in-law, Nelda Egan Smith; a daughter, Shirley Hodges; a son-in-law, Robert W. Sappington; three grandchildren, Sabrina Hodges, Shawn Morgan and Brandon Woodruff; and two great-grandchildren, Ashley Smith and Jacob Wayne Smith. Funeral services will be Saturday at 11 a.m. at the Ammon 1st LDS Ward, 3000 Central Ave., with Bishop Robert Marshall officiating. The family will visit with friends Friday from 7 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. at Eckersell Memorial Chapel in Rigby, and Saturday from 9:30 a.m. to 10:45 a.m. at the church. Burial will be in the Ririe-Shelton Cemetery.
