Son of James and Mary Moyer. Twin brother of Robert Moyer.
Richard went to Farm Valley School until the 8th grade. His lunches consisted of peanut butter and bread with sometimes fruit on occasion. His father was on the school board at the time and hired a man teacher which Richard said was mean. When the big flood came as a boy he went to work as a laborer for the railroad and made one to two dollars per day. His first car was a 1935 Ford Coupe. He lived with his parents until their deaths and still remains at their home farming.
Richard Paul Moyer was born July 28, 1924 at Gretna, NE, the son of James Ernest and Mary Edith (Bennett) Moyer. Richard was a retired farmer. He had also worked for the Chicago-Burlington-Quincy Railroad. He was a member of the Eagles Aerie #968 of Nebraska City.
He is survived by four brothers, James Moyer of DeSoto, MO., Victor Moyer and Stanley Moyer both of Hamburg, and August "George" Moyer of Springfield, MO.; two sisters, Violet Hill of Tabor and Phyllis Peeler of Hamburg; other relatives and friends.
He was preceded in death by brothers, Russell, Robert and Philip and a half-sister, Etta "Toots".
Richard died April 30, 1999 at his home near Hamburg, at the age of 74 years, nine months and two days.
Graveside services were held May 4 at the Hamburg Cemetery. The Rev. Blaine Pritchett officiated. Rash-Gude Funeral Home was in charge of the arrangements.
