HAMPTON BUCK COFER:
100 years, 5 months
Mr. Hampton B. Cofer, of Monmouth County, New Jersey; as a child we use to visit with Uncle Buck as a family on numerous occasions. He lived in North Jersey; near Long Branch & Asbury Park. I was told he was the first African American that owned and operated a newspaper printing press business in that region. I remember my dad asking me if I would like to spend a summer working with uncle Buck in the shop; looking back I wished I had. He also owned several rental properties in Atlantic City, New Jersey.
Uncle Buck enjoyed visits to our homes in Cherry Hill, New Jersey when he had a chance. I remember him being a tall nice good-looking gentle man a confirmed bachelor and he left no children. Mr.H.B Cofer lived a full and rewarding life here on earth and he worked until his health started to fail just after 100.
He was well loved by those who came in contact with him as he was a quiet peaceful man that showed warmth, kindness and love. He was predeceased by his brother John M. Cofer; and his wife, Aunt Hattie Cofer of Atlantic City, New Jersey. He was the only one blessed to live to be over 100 years old on my paternal side. (bio by: PauL Cofer)
