Dora Bernice (Green) Steinhaus, age 90, of Sheboygan, died Saturday, July 5, 2008 at Pine Haven Christian Home in Sheboygan Falls.
She was born in Newberry, Michigan on March 17, 1918, the daughter of the late William and Elsie (Hazen) Green. Her family moved to Sheboygan Falls and then Sheboygan in 1926. Dora attended Central High School, graduating in 1936.
On June 10, 1939, Dora was united in marriage to Allen Steinhaus. She worked at McLellans and J. C. Penney. Dora was a member of St. Andrew Lutheran Church, where she was active in the Ladies Aid and Mission Society, served on various boards and committees of the ELCA Women of the Church and was on the board of the Deaconess Motherhouse of the Milwaukee Area Synod. She enjoyed spending time with her family, traveling, camping, gardening, quilting and sewing.
Dora was preceded in death by her husband Allen and is survived by her son Fred (Jill) Steinhaus, of Prior Lake, MN; daughters Nancy (Tom Ruppel) Lawrence of Sheboygan Falls, Barbara (Jim) Moore of Germantown; grandchildren Kelly (Rick) Ottman, Rob (Mary) Steinhaus, Christine (Kevin) Melby, Jeff Lawrence, Rick (Kerre) Steinhaus; great-grandchildren, Zachary and Brienz Ottman, Jordan, Samantha and Alyssa Steinhaus, Madeline, Jeremiah and Lydia Melby, Benjamin Lawrence, Megan and Cody Steinhaus; sisters Roberta (William) Eckhardt, of Sheboygan, Betty Dowlen, of Clarksville, TN; sister-in-law Dona Clair Schuk, of Milwaukee. She is further survived by many cousins, nieces, nephews and other relatives and friends. Dora was preceded in death by her sister-in-law, Carol Jean Schmidt, and by her brothers-in-law, Joseph Schuk and Fred Schmidt.
