WILBUR COFER: 79 years, 8 days

Wilbur Cofer was born in Smithfield, Virginia, 5th son of the late Tom and Ida Hall Cofer. He was a devout Christian and a faithful lay member for several years at the Fountain of Life Christian Center, in Burlington, New Jersey. As a licensed minister of the Gospel, He loved ministering to the sick and shut-in, visiting various hospitals and nursing homes on a regular basis. He was willing to pray with anyone he met and was always ready to lead people to Christ. About two weeks before he exited this world he prayed for me as he had often done throughout the years; his favorite scripture was 2 Corinthians 5:17 "Therefore if any man be in Christ, he is a new creature: old things are passed away; behold, all things are become new."† He joined the US Army in 1945 and after serving 15 years, was given an honorable discharge. He had a successful sales career with Sears and Roebuck Company. He enjoyed traveling along the eastern shore for deep-sea fishing – especially to Atlantic City, New Jersey where he lived for a period of time. He enjoyed sitting on the beach, feeding seagulls. He and his beloved brother Theodore and his nephews enjoyed many deep sea fishing trips that yield a great catches most times… He was preceded in death by his first wife Ella R., on Dec 28, 1982. This union was blessed with their adopted daughter, Thelesia E., whom they loved dearly as their own. He was blessed to be joined in holy matrimony to his second wife, Mary Elizabeth (Massey) DeGrilla on November 6, 1987. He leaves to cherish his precious memories his wife, 0ne adopted daughter; three stepdaughters; two sisters-in-law, six grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; and a host of nieces, nephews, relatives and friends.

"Flowers have spoken to me more than I can tell in written words. They are the hieroglyphics of angels, loved by all men for the beauty of the character, though few can decipher even fragments of their meaning." ~ Lydia Maria Child, Letters from New York
