James Bentley Sides was one of twelve children of Andrew Allen Sides and Mary Magdalene Staggs. Mary Staggs was reportedly the daughter of an adopted Cherokee Indian boy.John Staggs. Jsmes B. Sides married Margaret Ann Melinda Ellis in 1870. To them were born nine children, William Jess, Nora Emmaline (Key), Emily Elizabeth (Lemons), Juley Roxanna (Miller), Martha Lu Ida(Dill), Sarah, Jonathan Delma, Henry Grover, and Walter Griffin Sides.
