Francis F. C. Tippett, 75 years old and a lifetime resident of this community died at 2:55 pm Thursday at the home of his brother, Ernest Tippett, at Sweetwater. He had made his home there for the past two years.
Mr. Tippett was born near Petersburg on Nov. 8, 1888 a son of Francis M. and Sarah Clemens Tippett. He never married. For many years he operated a taxi business in Petersburg, and some thrity years ago suffered injuries when run over by a car which left him totally incapacitated and on crutches for the rest of his life. He was a veteran of WWI, and a member of the American Legion.
Surviving are three brothers, Antle and Oscar Tippett of Petersburg and Ernest of Sweetwater.
Funeral services were held at 2 pm on Sunday at the Satorius Funeral Home, conducted by Rev. Ollie Phillips, pastor of First Baptist Church and burial was in Farmer's Point Cemetery, south of Petersburg, with Kirby-Watkins Post American Legion in charge of the burial service. The Petersburg Observer Thursday, May 28, 1964.
Note: The injury he received as stated above was a result of being run over by a car as he was putting air in his car's tire at a Petersburg gas station.
