"Graveside memorial services for Roy Jennings will be held Thursday, May 31, 2007 at 10 a.m. in the Oak Forest Cemetery. Full military honors will be given by the American Legion Post 30 with Jared Moore serving as bugler. Arrangements are under the direction of the Craig-Hurtt Funeral in Mountain Grove, Mo.
Roy James Jennings, son of the late William Walter and Nellie Jane (Hargis) Jennings, was born on April 13, 1929 near Thornfield, Mo. in Ozark County, and departed this life on November 22, 2006 in the veteran's home in Washington, D.C. following a long illness with cancer. He was 77 years, 7 months, and 10 days of age.
Roy was the eighth child born to the family of ten children; six boys and four girls. He and his sisters were all born in Ozark County. The family moved to Mountain Grove, Mo. in 1936 and two years later they bought a farm in Douglas County. The farm joined the Oak Forest Church property, south of Norwood.
Roy finished grade school in Oak Forest School and attended Norwood High School before going to California in 1945. In 1948 he joined the United States Navy and served for four years and then transferred into the United States Air Force. In 1968 he retired following 20 years of service and moved to Florida. Years later he moved back to Missouri where he lived in Springfield and his last move was to the veteran's home in Washington.
Roy was married for a number of years and two children were born to this union, Eric and Kara.
Besides his parents, he was preceded in death by three sisters, Stella Horner of Ava, Mo., Alice Bruffett of Norwood, Mo., and Rosa Cisco of Mountain Grove, Mo.; and by two brothers, Wilbur Jennings and Norwood, Mo., and Arch Jennings of Council Bluffs, Iowa.
Roy is survived by his son, Eric Jennings of Dublin, Ohio; his daughter, Kara Jennings of Lock Born, Ohio; three brothers, Ray Jennings of Houston, Mo., Truman Jennings of Modesto, Calif., and Lewis Jennings of Wichita, Kansas; one sister, Lois Dake of Norwood, Mo.; several nieces; nephews; and many other relatives and friends who will greatly miss him."
