WAPATO - William A. "Bill" Metsker Jr., 57, of Wapato, died Friday, April 25, 1997 at Emerald Circle Convalescent Center in Wapato.
Bill was born on November 4, 1939 at Wapato to William and Edith (Clements) Metsker Sr. He was raised and educated at Wapato. He then served in the U.S. Navy from 1959 until being honorably discharged in 1963. Bill worked for Yakima Cold Storage for twenty years until cancer forced his retirement in March of 1997.
Bill was a member of the Wapato American Legion Post #133. He enjoyed playing pool.
Bill is survived by his two sons Richard Metsker of Wapato; and Lloyd Metsker of White Swan; one daughter Sonia George of Toppenish; his mother Edith Bailey of Harrah; nineteen grandchildren; two sisters, Mildred Vandervort of Wapato, and Marie Bailey of Selah; three brothers, Raymond Bailey of Yakima, Mitch Bailey of Parker Heights, and Michael Bailey of Harrah. He was preceded in death by his father, a son William Metsker III; and a sister Starlene Visaya.
Funeral services were held Tuesday April 29, 1997. in Merritt Funeral Home in Wapato. Military honors were conducted by the Wapato American Legion at the Reservation Community Memorial Park west of Wapato.

Uncle Bill was quite special. He loved children. He was especially proud of his own. He displayed momentos from his children on his walls. He was a funny guy who worked hard all his life. He enjoyed being around people and telling stories. His life was cut short do to cancer. He is resting now but will not be forgotten.
