Don S. Davis

Actor. He is best remembered for his television roles including that of 'Major Garland Briggs' on "Twin Peaks" from 1990 to 1991, and that of 'Major General George S. Hammond' on "Stargate SG-1" from 1997 to 2007. Born Donald Sinclair Davis in Aurora, Missouri, he was educated at the Southwest Missouri State College in theater and art, and later at the Southern Illinois University Carbondale where he received his master's degree in theatre in 1970. Turning to teaching after graduating Davis taught for a number of years and served as a Captain in the United States Army before returning to Southern Illinois University to complete his Ph.D. in theatre. He retired from teaching in 1987 to focus more on his acting career. Though theatre and teaching was his first love, Davis made his acting debut in a TV guest appearance as 'Benny' on the television series, "Joanie Loves Chachi" in 1982. His other credits include the films, "The Journey Of Natty Gann" (1985), "I-Man" (1986), "Spot Marks The X" (1986), "Deadly Deception" (1987), "Malone" (1987), "Stakeout" (1987), "Body Of Evidence" (1988), "Watchers" (1988), "Rescue Hill" (1989), "Top Of The Hill" (1989), "Beyond The Stars" (1989), "Chaindance" (1990), "Waiting For The Light" (1990), "Cadence" (1990), "A League Of Their Own" (1992), "Cliffhanger" (1993), "Hideaway" (1995), "Brothers Of The Frontier" (1996), "Atomic Train" (1999), "Suspicious River" (2000), "Best In Show" (2000), "Hostage Negotiator" (2001), "Miracle" (2004), "Passing Darkness" (2005), "Beyond Loch Ness" (2007), "Seed" (2007), "Vipers" (2008), and television appearances including "Madison", "The New Adventures Of Beans Baxter", "The Beachcombers", "Wiseguy", "Bordertown", "Unsub", "Booker", "L.A. Law", "21 Jump Street", "Knots Landing", "Highlander", "Street Justice", "Northern Exposure", "The X-Files", "Viper", "The Outer Limits", "The West Wing", "The Sentinel", and "Supernatural." He was also a talented voice artist for cartoons and a stunt double for actor Dana Elcar (for whom he was often mistaken) on the "MacGyver" TV series. In 2003, he married Ruby Fleming. His last years were spent between both Los Angeles and Gibsons, British Columbia. (bio by: K)
