College Football Coach. As head coach at Indiana University from 1965 to 1972, he guided the Hoosiers in 1968 to their first and only Rose Bowl appearance to date. He was named Coach of the Year in 1967. A star player at the halfback position during his years at Miami University, he achieved all-Mid American Conference status three-times. He later returned there as assistant and head coach. In addition, he was head coach at Yale and Northwestern Universities. He was inducted into both the Miami and Indiana Universities Athletics Hall of Fames. (bio by: C.S.)
