Grampa Bean, born in New York, owned an orange ranch in Redlands. He established a comfortable life for his large family, then he was killed in a fall from the loft of the barn, Clever lawyers tricked Gramma Maud out of most of her money and she moved to San Pedro with her elderly father, her sister and her horde of children where she was able to buy a house. Her family settled in that area and many are still there.
Myrtle Maude Bean, 10 when her father died. The others were Mona, Wally, Bill, Chester, Leslie, and Herman. One of Bill's sons, Bill Jr. was a policeman in the area of Lomita in the 50s where Bill also lived. Wally was a professional chef. Leslie worked for an ice company and never married to have his own family so everyone named a child for him. I am one of the Leslies, Jeanette Leslie. Herman's wife was post master at Big Bear.
