John Joseph Cubbon, son of Margaret and Thomas Cubbon was born in Elizabeth, Illinois, March 25, 1862, and passed away at his home at Nora, Nebr., April 8, 1940, at the age of 78 years, 14 days. His father was a native of the Isle of Mann, being a sea captain in his early life. He came to this country about the age of 35 and settled in Joe (sic) Davis (sic) county (sic), Illinois. John was one of a family of ten children, all of whom preceded him in death.
He attended the public school at Elizabeth, Illinois, and attended Mount Morris Seminary. In the year 1888 he was married to Ida Mae Kevern of Elizabeth, Illinois. To this union one child, Cora Alberta, was born.
In 1889 they moved to Cortland, Nebr.; the year following they moved to a farm south of Nelson. After six years, they moved to a farm south of Nora where they lived until 1918. From 1918 to 1934 Mr. Cubbon was engaged in the implement business in Nelson. In 1934 they moved again to the farm across the road from their daughter, Mrs. George Thayer.
Mr. Cubbon was a loyal member of the Methodist Church, both in Nora and Nelson and was for many years superintendent and teacher in the Sunday school.
He leaves to mourn his passing, his wife, Ida Mae, one daughter and son-in-law, Mr. and Mrs. George Thayer; two granddaughters, Mrs. Glen Crook, Hutchinson, Kansas, and Mary Thayer; and three grandsons, Ralph Lynn and Dale Thayer of Nora; one granddaughter, Elda having died April 11, 1934, and John Woodrow March 4, 1913. He also left seven nephews and five nieces, and a host of friends. He was a loving husband, father and grandfather.
The funeral was held at Nora on Wednesday afternoon at 2:30, Rev. W.B. Zimmerman of Allen, officiating. Burial was in the Nora cemetery (sic).
