Tonetta immigrated to America in 1839 with her son, Thor, when he was eight years old. Her first husband died in Norway. She married Hans Anton Christianson who's first wife died at sea on the way to America. Hans Anton and Tonetta were among the first members of Palmyra Lutheran Church and Tonetta was in the first Ladies Aid of the congregation.
