Mahoning Dispatch, Fri, 7 Jan 1938
"Popular Young Man Killed"
"William Charles Schaaf was almost instantly killed at 6:30 last Thursday evening when the car he was driving collided with another at the intersection of Erie St. and Williamson Ave. in Youngstown, Billie, as he was generally known, had borrowed the car of a friend to bring a hoist home to Canfield to use in repairing his own car, which was out of service. Used to good brakes, he had depended on them to stop for the intersection on Williamson Ave. but those on the car he was driving were faulty and he crashed with a car driving north on Erie St. He was taken to South Side hospital but died from an injury on the back of his head before any of his family could be called. Billie, the older son of Mr. and Mrs. Frank Schaaf, was born in Canfield July 21, 1916, celebrating his 21st birthday last summer. He graduated from high school three years ago. He was of a very happy disposition and had made a wide circle of friends and was especially devoted to his home where he will be sadly missed. He was a member of the M. E. Church. Beside his parents, he leaves three sisters, Mrs. Wm. McNabb of Cleveland, Mrs. Robert Bates of Youngstown and Mrs. Forest Renkenberger of Canfield. A younger brother, Paul, died two years ago. Funeral services were held from his home Monday afternoon in charge of Rev. G. A. Gibson and interment made in the Canfield cemetery."
Mahoning Dispatch, Fri, 7 Jan 1938
