New Jersey, USA
|Death: ||Aug. 29, 1832|
Abraham was joined in marriage March 17, 1765 to Phoebe (Winans) Powers at New Providence, Union, New Jersey. He was father to Ester (Powers) Inman, Jemima Powers, John Powers, Isaac Powers, James Powers, Abraham Powers, Elizabeth Powers, Jacob Powers and Phoebe Powers.
Abraham Powers was born in northern New Jersey, probably Sussex County, in 1743. In 1754 there was Indian trouble in this area which drove many settlers, including the Powers family, south to Trenton. In 1758 they moved to Upland, now Chester, Pennsylvania and in 1762 went West to what would become, in 1773, Westmoreland County.
In 1776 Abraham became converted to the Methodist faith to such a degree that he and his son Isaac helped found at least 5 Methodist Churches. His last 6 children who were Isaac, James, Abraham, Elizabeth, Jacob and Phoebe were all Baptized in the Methodist Church.
