Best remembered for her role as the mother on the 1976-77 sitcom "Mary Hartman, Mary Hartman." She began her career as a dancer in the 1930s and appeared in several stage musicals in the 1940s and 50s including "My Darlin' Aida" and "Wonderful Town." She came to national attention in the 1950s after being discovered by Jack Paar, later becoming a regular performer on his "Tonight Show." She was known as a natural comedian, appearing on several shows including "The Merv Griffin Show." She continued work on stage, television, and screen. She appeared with Carol Channing in the 1974 production of "Lorelei." In 1976, she landed the role of Louise Lasser's mother on the sitcom "Mary Hartman, Mary Hartman." The show lasted only one season. On film, she played 'Blanche' assistant to the principal in the 1978 musical "Grease" ands its sequel "Grease 2," in 1982. Goodman was also known for her work as a voice-over artist. Her voice could be heard as 'Mrs. Miller' in the "Alvin & the Chipmunks" cartoon series. She continued to work in television well into her seventies appearing on such shows as "Different Strokes," and "Murder, She Wrote." (bio by: The Perplexed Historian)
