Phyllis Fern Dickey was born August 1, 1924 at Windom, Minnesota, the daughter of William and Luetta (Dilly) Lamfers. She was a 1942 graduate of Ashton Public School and worked for a year as a bookkeeper at Lambert Lumber Yard in Sibley, Iowa.

Phyllis and John Dickey were united in marriage on November 29, 1945 at Sibley, Iowa. John and Phyllis made their home on the Dickey home farm in Ashton, Iowa. In 1949 they moved to Norcross, Minnesota. Bad weather resulted in poor farming for several years and the family was forced to move to other farms near New York Mills, Wadena and Vergus before settling near Millerville in 1955.

John, Phyllis and their family were members of Our Lady of Seven Dolors Catholic Church. She was active in the MCCL and had a keen interest in politics. Her family was the most important part of her life and she took an active role in the operation of their dairy farm. She enjoyed gardening and preserving the produce from her garden.

John passed away on September 21 of this year and Phyllis died three months later on December 21, 1997 at the Grant County Health Center in Elbow Lake. In addition to her husband, Phyllis was preceded in death by her parents and a brother Stanley.
