DR JOHN CONNELLY ANSWERS LAST CALL
HEART TROUBLE COMES AFTER LONG ILLNESS
A PROMINENT DOCTOR, ONE NOTED FOR FINE HORSES AND CATTLE.
Dr. John L. Connelly, a well known macon county physician, died at 8 45 oclock tuesday morning at his home in Harristown, after a long illness with heart trouble. He suffered a stroke of paralysis about seven years ago and through he never entirely recovered from his effects it did not cause his death. he had been confined to his bed eight or nine months.
The funeral will be held thursday afternoon at 230.
Mr. Connelly leaves three daughters and one son, all residents of Harristown. These are Misses Susan Helen, Laura w. and Alice R. Connelly, and George S. Connelly. He also leave a brother, George S. Connelly of Springfield.
BORN IN SPRINGFIELD
Dr. Connelly was born in Springfield, March 18 1846. HIs father, George R. Connelly, was a native of the District of Columbia, and during his residence in Springfield carried on a grocery store. Dr. Connelly took a position as clerk in the store of his uncle at the age of 12 years, his father having died four years before. While working as a clerk he studied medicine under the direction of two local physicians, and afterward entered Rush Medical college in Chicago. He graduated from this school in 1878, after four years, course, having worked his way throught by keeping books.

He went to Harristown in June 1878, where for many years he engaged in the practice of medicine.
He practied for a short time after the stroke of paralysis was received, his wife driving around with him. He was the family physician to all the old families in the neighborhood and was always popular. He was liberal and broad minded and well liked by all who knew him. He was a member of the state medical society and at one time took an active part in his work.
He was married Sept 3, 1872 to Nancy L. Bedford of Paris, Ky., the wedding taking place in Harristown, to which place Miss Bedfores father had moved sometime before her marriage. Mrs. Connelly died June 7, 1889, of heart disease. Six children were born to the couple. The doctor was married a second time a few years ago to Mrs. Ed Kretzer of Harristown.
He was a Mason and member of the Christian church in Harristown.
In 1893 he was elected supervisor and always took an active interest in everything pertaining to his town and county.
He also was an excellent horse and cattle man.
