Walter Adams Scholes was born 8 April 1895 at Laie, Oahu, Hawaii the son of Walter and Phoebe Adams Scholes. His parents were serving an LDS Mission in Hawaii at the time of his birth. He grew up in Idaho and attended Clark and Rigby Schools. He was a veteran of World War I. He married Gladys Beatrice Alice Keveran on 19 February 1919 in the Salt Lake LDS Temple. For a time he served as the bishop of the River Heights Ward in Utah. He served in many positions and received special recognition for his work in scouting when he was given the "Silver Beaver" award in 1977. He was an enthusiastic temple attender. He drove school bus in Rigby for many years and was the sexton of the Rigby Pioneer Cemetery as well as running his small farm. In the community he served as a trustee in school district 35 and was secretary of the Lessee Canal Board. Survivors include, two sons, Walter Kay( Marjorie) Scholes, of Smithfield, Utah,and John David Scholes (JoAnn) of Idaho Falls; three daughters, Beatrice (Floyd) Freeman, Virginia (Kenneth) Rasmussen, and Marjorie (Ronald) Killian of Shelley; three sisters, Phoebe Beazer,of Lorenzo, Sarah (Leland) Goff of Midvale, Utah, Miriam Ricks of Sugar City, and one brother, William F. (Sarah) Scholes of Smithfield, Utah. He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife, a son, a brother, and a sister. Services were held 2 March 1978 at the Rigby Stake Center followed by burial in the Rigby Pioneer Cemetery.
