Velma H. Avera
Funeral for Velma H. Avera, 76, Lawton, will be at 2:30 p.m. Friday in Becker Funeral Home Memorial Chapel with Rev. Joseph R. Ross, pastor, Blessed Sacrament Catholic Church, officiating.

Mrs. Avera died Tuesday, June 17, 2008 in Lawton.

Burial will be in the Post Cemetery, Fort Sill.

She was born on March 15, 1932, in Claremore to William Hampton and Dora Rosser. She served in the Army for four years before being honorably discharged. She married Major John A. Avera on Dec. 2, 1955, in Dillon, S.C. She was a Catholic.

Survivors include two sons: George M. Avera and Craig Avera, Lawton, and a sister, Alma Jane Royster, Reeds, Mo.

She was preceded in death by her husband and a sister, Glenda Badger.

Memorial contributions may be made to the St. Jude Children's Research Hospital, 332 N. Lauderdale, Mailstop 505, Memphis, Tennessee 38105.

Friends and family may call from 7 p.m. until 8 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home.
