Peter began his military service in the German Army in 1874, at the age of 20 years, and so continued for two years. In 1877 he emigrated to America in company with other members of his family and they settled on the farm where he has lived ever since. He was a Democrat and had served as a school director of District No. 5, one of the best regulated districts in the township. He was a member of St. Paul's United Church of Christ.
