Doris Elizabeth (Peterson) Elliott, aka "Grandma Kitty", age 80, of Abilene, died June 14, 2008 at a local hospital.

Visitation will be held 6 to 8 p.m. Monday at Elliott-Hamil Funeral Home, 542 Hickory Street in Abilene, Texas. Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Tuesday, June 17, 2008 at the Bethel Lutheran Church in Ericksdahl, Texas with burial immediately following in the Ericksdahl (Bethel) Lutheran Cemetery.

Doris was born on May 21, 1928 in Stamford, Texas to Carl Henry and Bernice (Swenson) Peterson. She was raised in the Swedish community of Ericksdahl and graduated from Stamford High School in 1945. She was employed by the First National Bank of Stamford for 15 years.

On May 27, 1960, she married C. C. Buck Elliott. Doris was a devoted homemaker and Lone Star Gas Co. supporter. She and Buck hosted countless dinner events for fellow employees and friends throughout Buck's career, as they lived in numerous locations including Wichita Falls, Sweetwater, Paul's Valley, OK, and finally, Abilene, Texas. After his retirement, they enjoyed traveling together, working on their home and Wednesday night at the Abilene Country Club.

"Grandma Kitty", as she was affectionately known to her grandchildren and great-grandchildren, enjoyed sewing and was a fabulous cook. Her chicken spaghetti, pecan tarts, pound cake, and Nieman-Marcus brownies were highly acclaimed by family and friends. She also hosted countless children's parties through the years for her daughter and displayed her culinary skills with elaborate cakes in the shape of Snoopy, pink poodles, and the Wizard of Oz.

Doris was a member of the St. Paul United Methodist Church where she still has many dear and devoted friends.

She was preceded in death by a son, Stephen Ross Elliott in 1962, her mother in 1979, her father in 1999, and her beloved Buck in 2000.

Survivors include her daughter, Karen Garcia and husband, Jesse Garcia, of Brownwood; her brother, Arnold Peterson and wife, Wilma, of Round Rock; her sister, Yvonne Reeves and husband, Ray, of Ericksdahl; two grandsons, Matthew Garcia and wife, Susan Becker Garcia, of Paint Rock and Nathan (Pee-Wee) Garcia of Odessa; two great-grandchildren, Charlie Beth Blackwell and Jaxson Garcia of Paint Rock; nephew, Alan Peterson and wife, Audrey, and sons, Adam and Sam of South Carolina; niece, April (Reeves) Barr and husband, Cy, and son, Mason, of Hondo; sister-in-law, Marie Jo Bennett, niece, JoAnn Calk, and son, Joel, of Anson; nephew, Blaine Bennett and wife, Paula, of Stamford.

Grandma Kitty loved animals and is also survived by her beloved cat Buffy; her grand dogs, Lady, Butch and Koda of Brownwood; and her grand bird, Sweetie, also of Brownwood.

Special thanks to Dr. Carl Trusler, whose compassion and caring sustained Doris and her family during this time. Also, thanks to the caring staff of Community Care Center in Stamford, as well as Hospice of Abilene.
