12/25/2002 LEON "RUSTY" ROSS HUNTINGTON — Leon "Rusty" Ross, the oldest resident of Huntington, was heavenbound Monday, Dec. 23, 2002, from the home of his niece and nephew in Swanton, after an injury as a result of a fall on Oct. 12. Mr. Ross was born June 5, 1905, in Huntington, and spent his entire life in the same town, living the last 65 years in the house he shared with his late wife, Marion W. Ross, who passed away on June 18, 1986. Mr. Ross was a trapper, hunter, fisherman, and dairy farmer for nearly his entire life. He also produced maple syrup and honey, and had a love of the open land. He is survived by sisters-inlaw, Olive "Peg" Johnson of Rutland, Ferne W. Kiorpes of Palm City, Fla., and Elizabeth M. Ross of Huntington. He is also survived by many loving nieces and nephews in Franklin and Chittenden counties as well as other areas; and by wonderful neighbors and friends of many, many years. Uncle will be dearly missed and the truly unique individual that he was will be cherished in our hearts forever. He was predeceased by four siblings, Isabelle Ross in 1994, Mary Mahoney in 2002, Roderick Ross in 1999; and Madina Steadman in 1991. A special thanks for the wonderful care from the home health professionals and the hospice program volunteers who truly reach out to the families and make this hard time almost a joy. Funeral services will be held Friday, Dec. 27, at 11 a.m. in Huntington Baptist Church with visiting hours from 9 to 11 a.m. in the church. Burial will be in Maplewood Cemetery in Huntington in the spring. Gifford Funeral Service, 22 Depot St., Richmond, is in charge of arrangements.
