Edward was the son of John & Anna "Mary" (Hillerich) Vogel. He married Mary Belle "Mamie" Heaton on 23 Jun 1887, in Clark County IN. Their daughters were Anna May (Vogel) Miller and Edna Mae (Vogel) Goff. He was a glass blower by trade. Edward died of pneumonia at City Hospital in Louisville a couple of weeks after swimming in the Ohio River.

The death certificate states he died of Transverse Myelitis.
*Bacterial myelitis includes Mycoplasma Pneumoniae, which is a common agent for respiratory tract. Studies have shown respiratory tract infections within 4–39 days prior to the onset of transverse myelitis. (Source: Ask.com Encyclopedia)
