Dwight I. Douglass, 55, died Monday February 12, 1940 in Hammond, Louisiana at the home of Mrs. Minnie Mathews. He was born June 6, 1884, son of the late Dr. and Mrs. D. T. Douglass; a graduate of Colfax, IL High School and Miami University at Oxford, Ohio. He experienced much service in World War I, being in some of the most important engagements. He was a Sgt. in the 27th Engineers. He was employed by the Veterans Administration for about 15 years. On March 17, 1934, he married Miss Ruth Mathews of Hammond. He was survived by his widow; two sisters, Mrs. Miriam D. Moore of Chicago, IL and Mrs. Emily Gilmer of Tifton, GA; one son, Donald Dwight. (From the Hammond [Louisiana] Vindicator)
Douglass was one of four founders of Phi Kappa Tau national fraternity at Miami University, Oxford, Ohio in 1906. He also was a short story writer.
